Rowing (crew) is enjoying huge popularity as a competitive sport for high-school-age boys and girls. The Los Gatos Rowing Club (LGRC) at beautiful Lexington Reservoir hosts a junior program that is one of the most successful on the west coast. In LGRC’s week-long summer camps, boys and girls will be introduced to the sport of rowing and learn the fundamentals in an eight-oared shell (boat). Teamwork, different methods of training, and on-the-water rowing are emphasized. Athletes are encouraged to attend for multiple weeks. For safety, participants must be able to swim (a swim waiver is required). Rowing is a physically demanding sport – attendees should be energetic and bring a positive attitude. This camp is a great way to find out if rowing might be a good fit as a competitive sport in high school. The competitive rowing teams, which start in early September, are comprised of students from many of the area’s public and private high schools. NOTE: please bring water daily. Parents are invited to come on Friday to go out in a launch to watch their athletes race and learn about LGRC. A pizza lunch will be provided for rowers and parents on Fridays. For more information, contact Jaime Velez, firstname.lastname@example.org or www.LGRC.org An emergency and liability form will need to be filled out the first morning of camp for all new students).
