This two-part course will study woven rugs before and after 1900. The first evening will focus on weaving, construction, design elements and dyes of historical rugs. We will discuss trade and examine tribal and city rugs for similarities and differences in techniques. The class will conclude with 20thcentury rug styles and trends, and we’ll look at how changes in world commerce, world events and current trends have influenced today’s rug markets.
