This class will introduce students to zine-making (i.e., self-produced/published mini-magazines) through the unique and fun filter of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" style narrative. Students will create both images and text and will leave the course with a better understanding of design and composition, traditional cut-and-paste techniques, computer image editing skills, simple binding techniques, and where to share their zines with the world. The "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure" model of writing is not only fun, but also a great way for aspiring (and more seasoned) writers/artists to take some of the pressure out of the process and see where their stream-of-consciousness leads them. Most tools and supplies included in the lab fee.
