You'll find activities here for youths and teens from 1st grade through high school. For older teens, you may also find some of the courses listed under adult activities, special events or trips and tours appropriate, so don't forget to check there too! “Bust your Moves” Social Basketball Skill Clinic
Dances are boring.  Boss your skills with your friends to the thump of your favorite music.  Want to ball like a Boss?   Bring your own basketball and come ready to get down.  This workout isn't for lazy people.  Be ready to sweat while you show off your best moves and learn some new ones too.  Open to Guys and Gals 12-17 years old who are serious about fun and basketball.  Mondays 6-8pm for 10 weeks, ball and court shoes required.

Creative Genius Art Camp
A fun filled week for all future artists. This camp will introduce each participant to a variety of painting and drawing techniques (canvas, ceramics, wood and more). ALL creative materials are included. The final day of camp will include an art show with each artist displaying all works of art for family. Program is popular each year and space is limited so sign up early.  Register by Monday, August 5th for August 12th camp. Open to ages 6-17 years.

CSI Jr. Investigators
Officers from our very own Pendleton Police Department will lead this exciting opportunity to explore and learn from the crime scene. Junior investigators will be "badged". They will learn how to take fingerprints, make handwriting comparisons, interview witnesses and gather other evidence. Register by Monday, July 1st for this July 8th - 11th program. Ages 9 -13 years.

Friday Trip Jubilee Lake
We will depart from the Pendleton Recreation Center at 9:30 am SHARP! Please plan to arrive for check-in between 9 - 9:15 am. Once we reach the lake we will have lunch and then split into groups for an easy hike around the lake (bring some tennies), scouting for the perfect fishing hole and swimming around the dock. A certified lifeguard will accompany the group. We will be back between 3:30 - 4 pm. Register by Tuesday, July 23rd. Limited to first 50 children registered. Ages 8-13 years. Friday Trip Pendleton Rodeo Lanes/Movie Matinee
We will depart from the Pendleton Recreation Center at 9:30 am SHARP! Please plan to arrive for check-in between 9 - 9:15 am. Our first stop will be the Pendleton Movie Theater. We will be watching an age appropriate movie. Stay tuned for the title which will be annouced at a later date.

We will have lunch at Stillman Park (please send your children with a lunch) before proceeding to Rodeo Lanes for bowling. The kids will receive shoe rental and two games with their registration. Please bring money to eat for snacks and additional games at the bowling alley if desired (air hockey, pool, video games, etc.) We will be back at the gym at approximately 3:30pm. Friday Trip Umatilla Rim Hike
We will depart from the Pendleton Recreation Center at 9:30 am SHARP! Please plan to arrive for check-in between 9 - 9:15 am. We will board the bus and head up to the trailhead (across from Andies's Prairie/Sno Park). From here we will hike along the National Forest Border on the Umatilla Rim Trail. This is a nice gentle hike through the trees with the occasional sweeping views. This hike was suggested by our local forest service office as an appropriate opportunity for children of this age. Learn a bit about wildflower and plant identification too!

We will have lunch on the trail. Please provide your child with a backpack containing lunch and a few extra snacks as we expect they will work up an appetite. Please also provide no less than two water bottles or drinks for your child. Good walking shoes, sunscreen a hat and sunglasses, and a camera are items that will also make the trip safer and more enjoyable.

We will have the option of an early turnaround for kids who are running out of steam while the rest of the crew continues on the trail. Part of our staff will escort these kids back to Andie's Prairie where they can rest and play around on the Andie's Praire sledding hill (too bad there is no snow this time of year!) Friday Trip Walla Walla Aviary & Movie Matinee

Junior Picassos

We will focus on Summer Fun for our simple craft projects.

Movies in the Park
We will have six movies this summer on consecutive Saturdays beginning June 29th - August 3rd if we get enough sponsors to cover the $350 for each show. Stay tuned for movie titles and encourage anyone potential sponsors you know to invest in a worthy community event. We even have the ability to create a movie "preview" promoting their business, etc. Call 966-0228 for more information.

Concession stand opens at 8:00 pm.  Movie begins at dusk for six consecutive Saturdays beginning June 29th. Helium balloons, glow in the dark necklaces and cotton candy provided for a nominal charge on select nights. Movies are FREE!

Skills For Life
Grade Range: 6 - 12
This activity is open to all middle and high school aged students.  Partnering with Lost & Found Youth Outreach, the rec center gym will open on Thursdays at 3:00 p.m. Lots of gym activities available.  At 4:00 p.m. the pace will change into a life skills group.  Topics will include success at school, cultivating a positive self-image, helping others, and lots more!  This program is FREE.  Program meets year round. Summer Parks Adventure Camp
New this year! Register for one week or all six depending on your summer schedule and child's interests. June 24th - 27th: Game Time A little bit of everything including cup stacking tournaments, board and card games, relay races, field games, ultimate frisbee, and lots more. July 1st - 3rd:  Its a Drama Thing Be a stand-up comedian,learn some crazy & funny camp skits, work together and make a silly music video - you can be a rock star! July 8th - 11th:  Get Crafty! Make & paint your own pottery & friendship bracelets, create a beaded key chain, draw a "fuzzy" poster, decorate a t-shirt, and explore origami. July 15th - 18th: What if? Science Exploration Edible science projects, explosive, slimey and goopy experiments, and a chance to explore the question, "What if?" July 22nd - 25th: Survivor Week Scavenger hunts, build a micro sized floating boat using only materials directly from nature, how to use GPS, and fishing skills. July 29th - August 1st:  Summer Water Fun This final week will include a collection of the most popular activities from previous camp weeks as well as a bit of water fun each day. We will celebrate our final camp day, Thursday, with both parks getting together for a wild day of slip and slide, tug-of-war, water weenie fights, and water balloon sling shots. Check out this boredom busting opportunity for children entering 2nd - 6th grades (in the Fall), or ages 8-12, to participate in a FREE day camp setting with six differently themed weeks to choose from!  Camp will be open from 9 am - 3 pm, Monday - Thursday, with lunch provided by Sodexo through Pendleton school lunch program. Tuesdays include a trip to the Aquatic Center (please send $4 with your child for admission or a season pass) and Thursdays involve a trip to the library (and participation in the summer reading program if desired) followed by free time in the rec center gymnasium. Camp is offered at either Community or Pioneer Park.  Pre-registration is REQUIRED and space is LIMITED at each site.  Please register by Wednesday, June 19th although this program often fills before the deadline so don't delay - choose your favorite weeks and register NOW!  We will NOT meet on Thursday, July 4th. Pioneer Park will most likely have some alternative location arrangements during the first week due to the new Pioneer Park construction project wrap up. We strive to hire education major college students for our park leaders since camp makes a wonderful practical work experience as they pursue a teaching degree. If they have not already been CPR certified they receive some basic training from Parks & Recreation staff.

Tri-Cities Teen Trip
Spend the day in the Tri-Cities with friends. We will head to the Columbia Center Mall to "hang-out" for a few hours. It will be off to Round Robin Restaurant for lunch (great burgers and shakes) and then back to the movie theater for a PG-13 or PG movie depending on what is playing at the time. Teens need to bring lunch, movie and any spending money. Transportation is provided in the registration fee. Please pay the $14 fee no later than August 9th for this Thursday, August 15th road trip. We will leave from the Rec Center parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and return around 4:30 p.m.
