Cinema for French Conversation
Each week, students are exposed to selections from French films exploring a wide variety of cultural themes. Students will work on their ability to express themselves with reasonable fluency and accuracy in both written and spoken French, about the social and interpersonal issues explored in the selected films. Intermediate level French recommended.

Conversation with TV5 (Intermediate)
Improve and expand your French using resources available through the French cable channel TV5Monde, their dedicated website, and Newscasts, documentaries and movies from francophone countries (France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, the Caribbean, and Africa) will be used to help you understand French as it is spoken in the real world. The variety of topics you will be asked to comment on will widen your vocabulary and increase your confidence in your speaking abilities activities. Francophone Literature A2/B1

This class examines complete works of contemporary authors from various regions in the French speaking world. Each writer shows her/his personal view about our changing world. Whether they talk about  Europe (Belgium or France), Africa (Cameroun, Sénégal, Morocco, Tunisia) or Guadeloupe, they all share a common passion for the region they describe while presenting a unique perspective on what it means to live there. This class is offered to students who are in the process of learning French and the course is accessible at A2 level. Each book studied in this class comes with a set of activities: vocabulary handouts, thematic study, interview of the author on video and creative writing workshops.

French Cuisine

This class is a perfect mix of language instruction and culture appreciation. The recipes discussed in this course are easy and fun to make. Students are introduced to essential kitchen-related vocabulary and sentence structures. Each dish is enriched with information about the region or the country of which it is a specialty. Students will have a hands-on experience working on food samples and sharing them in class. This class is open to all levels.

Grammar and Pronunciation - Beginner 1

With a focus on grammar and pronunciation, this class will give the students solid foundations in grammar and confidence in speaking. The purpose of this class is to help learners take good habits by making a clear distinction between two phonetic systems: the one from their native tongue and the one from the target language. Learners are also encouraged to work on prosody in order to develop oral-aural skills. The ultimate goal is to learn to be conversant in elementary French and to be autonomous in real-life situations.

Prerequisite: completion of Regular Beginner 1-2-3 or equivalent

Literature & History
This class presents a rich overview of 5 centuries of French literature and culture from the Renaissance to contemporary authors. Students will discuss selected works from famous writers from Voltaire to Camus and Sartre. Each author will be studied in the historical and artistic light of their century. A selection of pieces will be read out loud by students in each class then discussed as a group. This class is offered to those who have a solid foundation in French and are interested in French literature and culture.
