There are few things more rewarding than wearing a beautiful garment you’ve created with your own two hands. This course will introduce the beginner sewer to fashion sewing, fabric selection, and techniques for garment construction from start to finish using one of three patterns from the instructor’s fashion line. Students will learn how to follow a pattern, properly cut fabric, fit a garment to their body with basic alterations, and construct clothing using efficient, time-saving techniques from the fashion industry. Leave the course with a garment that fits you perfectly and the skills to take your sewing to the next level. Basic sewing machine skills are required, and students should bring a sewing machine to each class. Students should bring their own supplies; a materials list will be provided prior to the first class.

Stop-motion animation is the art of bringing inanimate objects and images to life. The class will cover the whole process: preparing a space for shooting, photographing a variety of media (clay, found objects, cutouts, drawings) manipulated in small increments, and putting it all together using a simple editing program. Throughout the course, we will watch animations by historically important animators and contemporary artists. Students will leave with a deeper understanding of the process and a finished, YouTube-ready animation. Most supplies included in lab fee; students should bring a point-and-shoot digital camera.
