An audio postcard is an engaging short story that uses subtle and effective documentary audio techniques. A thoughtful use of ambient sound, voice, and narrative place the listener smack in the middle of the sights, sounds, smells, and mood of a place or an event. As a student, you will explore the elements and mechanics of audio postcards, plan your sound gathering, and spend time in the field trying your hand at what you’ve learned about recording sounds and voices. This workshop is a good entry point for those beginning to explore audio documentary, as well as those who wish to strengthen their sound-gathering skills. The principles taught in this course are applicable to any audio, multimedia, or film project.
