Final Project Seminar In Documentary Studies

Description



This seminar is organized around group discussions of student projects, and how best to complete those projects, along with guided planning on taking the works to their intended audiences. Participants who successfully complete their project during this course will be awarded the Certificate in Documentary Arts. Certificate students who have met all other requirements and have done substantial work toward their intended final projects may request admission to the course. (12 hours/Advanced)

Students must submit a detailed project description and a rough cut or draft of the project by February 12. Please submit work to Continuing Education Director April Walton (awalton@duke.edu) to be admitted to the course. For more information, send an email to cdscourses@duke.edu. On April 25, students will share their work with a public audience at a graduation event.

Nancy Kalow, a longtime instructor at CDS, is co-chair of the selection committee for the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. Her video documentary Sadobabies was a winner of a Gold Hugo at the Chicago Film Festival and the Special Jury Trophy at the San Francisco Film Festival. In addition to teaching, she is working on a documentary project about “dead media” and maintains a blog called Documentary Starts Here.

Please note: Students must submit a detailed project description and a rough cut or draft of the project to the director of Continuing Education, April Walton, at awalton@duke.edu, no later than March 26 to be admitted to the course. On Friday, May 18, students will share their work with a public audience. For more information, send an email to cdscourses@duke.edu.
