This course will prepare students for the licensing exam for the Technician amateur radio license. This license gives the holder the legal right to communicate on the VHF, UHF, and microwave amateur radio bands. The text used for this course is one published by the American Radio Relay League specifically geared toward the Technician license. Topics covered include Federal Communications Commission regulations, the basic radio theory necessary to pass the licensing exam, choosing appropriate radio equipment, radio frequency safety and emission standards, and the fundamentals of operating. The course will go through the text chapter by chapter with practice quizzes. At the end of the course sample exams will be given to hone student's readiness for the licensing exam. Students who pass the licensing exam given at the end of the course will be licensed Technician Class amateur radio operators as soon as the FCC assigns them a call!
The Technician License is also a stepping stone to the General Amateur Radio License, which gives the holder access to the HF bands which permit worldwide communication.
Dr. Myers has been an amateur radio operator for 22 years and has held the Amateur Extra License for 14 years. He has made contacts with radio operators across the United States and as far away as Moscow, Russia. Each of the other instructors is also a licensed amateur operator and each one has expertise in the specific portion of the course they will be teaching.
