Outrigger Canoe - Intro

Description

Learn to paddle as a team in a 6-person outrigger canoe on Vasona Lake!  Our outrigger club, Pu Pu O Hawaii,  has been at the lake since 1978 and provides all the equipment and staff to teach the art of outrigger paddling.  The club is a member of the Northern California Outrigger Association and participates in racing throughout the bay area, California and Hawaii.  Outrigger paddling is a sport for a lifetime of on-the-water enjoyment.  No experience needed!  Life Jackets must be worn at all times while on the lake, PFD's are provided and required to be worn.  Parking is required for those cars staying longer than a half hour. Parking is free for drop-offs.

Paddlers are invited to join the outrigger club to continue to learn and race outrigger canoes.  The sprint race season kicks off on June 15 and runs through July.   Class participants are also invited to participate in Aloha Day Community Races at the Santa Cruz Wharf on Sunday, August 23rd – be sure to let us know you’d like to be part of it!

Classes meet at the Vasona Lake County Park Boat Center. Participants should wear exercise clothing that can get wet, water shoes or flip flops (street shoes are not allowed in the canoes) and bring water and a towel. Paddles and life jackets are provided.

For questions, contact Linda Dresbach at 408-371-0136, linakad@yahoo.com or www.pupuohawaii.org for more information on the club and our racing teams!
