For an enjoyable activity with lifelong benefits, we recommend one of our eight different reading skills programs taught by instructors from the Institute of Reading Development. Programs have been offered as a community service by LGS Recreation since 1985.

The musical focus of the 17 piece LGS Big Band is jazz in all styles with an emphasis on swing and dance. The classics from Miller, Goodman, Basie, and Ellington are featured along with some rock/funk classics from the 70's and 80's. The bands format is 5 Saxophones, 4 Trombones, 4 Trumpets, Piano, Bass, Guitar and Drums. Participants must be over 18 years of age. The band rehearses on Wednesday evenings at Fisher Middle School band room. If positions are filled, the band is still always looking for players to sub for absentees (no fee for subs). If you have solid skills on your instrument and are looking for an opportunity to play in a big band, contact the band coordinators at: lgsbigband@yahoogroups.com.
