Magic Tree House (based on the book series) Come join the adventure as we travel back in history to ancient civilizations, events and travel the globe in search of animal life and scientific phenomenon. This class uses literature as a springboard into hands on activities in history and science while incorporating weekly reading and writing opportunities*.

Books to be read prior to each class meeting in Component 4: We will be reading one book every two weeks this component to give the students time to complete each book.

(Session 4)

Weeks 1 &2

            Book 46:  Dogs in the Dead of Night-Swiss Alps

Project:  Learn about Switzerland and the Swiss Alps.  Learn about precipitation/snow and make “snow.” Create a snow globe of your favorite part of the story.

Weeks 3 & 4

Book 47:  Abe Lincoln at Last!-Washington, D.C. 1861

Project:  Learn the structure of our government. Research a president, dress like that president, and share your research as if you are that president. 

Weeks 5 & 6

            Book 48:  A Perfect Time for Pandas-China

Project:  Learn about earthquakes and plate tectonics.  Choose an endangered animal in China and make a peephole shoebox of the animal and its habitat.

Instructor: Debbie Jones is excited for this opportunity to share in the education of your children! She holds a multiple subject teaching credential and a Masters in Education degree from Biola University, and has taught the elementary grades in the traditional classroom for 11 years. She spent the last four years teaching classes for local home school programs. Debbie uses a hands-on approach to teaching which aids in solidifying concepts and in making learning fun!

Grade Range: 1 - 6


Additional Information

Parents will be responsible for obtaining the Magic Tree House books.  Students need to read each book prior to class.  Your local library is an excellent resource for these books.  Many of the books are also available on tape for younger learners.

There will be a non-refundable $5 materials fee collected from each student on the first day of each component.

Age Range:  6  -  13
