WHO SHOULD ATTEND:  Local members of the community and their families, first responders, public health, health care, public safety and law enforcement, county and local officials.

In response to the ever-present and growing problem of opioid abuse in our area, Arcadia University, in cooperation with the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety and Montgomery County Community College are conducting a 1-day symposium for community members and their families to discuss the epidemic from the community response perspective.  

The symposium will offer members of the community to interact with public safety, public health as well as local and county officials to discuss concerns and learn about resources available within the Montgomery County region.

The day will culminate with an expert panel discussion, allowing members of the community to ask specific questions of the panelists.  


Overview of the Day

8:30-9:00 AM Sign In/Registration 

9:00-10:00 AM Learn the Risk 

       Most Vulnerable: Who is at Risk?

       What's your pain: The slippery slope of using painkillers leading to addiction. 

10:00-12:00 PM Recognize the Risk

      Identifying symptoms and behaviors of addiction in adolescents and adults. 

      Point of Crisis: What happens when you call 911?

12:00-1:00 Lunch 

1:00-3:00 Respond to the Risk

    The Voice of the Community: Perspectives from Schools, Health Programs, Persons in Recovery, and First Responders. 

     Including Expert Panel Question and Answer

(Speakers from the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services, Montgomery County Health Department, The Bridge, SeaBrook House, National Health Services, Montgomery County Department of Public Safety) 

Hands on training in Narcan available throughout the day.
