How to Plan a Successful Fundraiser

Events such as galas, auctions, film screenings, and charity 5-K races can be a significant source of revenue for nonprofit organizations. They can also be a significant financial risk and major drain on staff and volunteer time, energy, and sanity. We will cover all aspects of event planning: choosing a theme and venue and creating a timeline; soliciting sponsors; recruiting an event committee; selecting vendors such as caterers, musicians, and auctioneers; pricing and selling tickets; promoting the event, and conducting attendee follow-up. We’ll review the Ten Worst Things that can happen to your event and how to avoid them. Come with an idea for a fundraising event. You’ll leave with an understanding of what to do—and what not to do—to make it successful.
