Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Service Dogs

Description

War follows our Veterans home, and while we enjoy the freedoms they secured for us, the battle continues for them. 

This workshop is designed to educate participants on the types and effects of stress that military members face both during and after deployments. It specifically explores the onset and manifestation of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and identifies effective treatments to combat PTSD.  The role of a service dog in treating PTSD will be discussed. 

Speakers include:

  • Dr. Tania Glenn, PsyD, LCSW, CTS – Owner of Tania Glenn and Associates, located in Austin, TX.   Tania Glenn and Associates is dedicated to providing responsive counseling and consultation for patients experiencing mental health issues such as mood disorders, family/relationship issues, stress, trauma, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  Please visit www.taniaglenn.com for more information.
  • Debi Krakar, MAS, CPDT – Executive Director of Austin Dog Alliance
  • Pat Stockwell – Veteran and partner with Jenny the Service Dog

 

This event is FREE, but you must sign up to reserve a spot.  Space will be limited.  Donations will be gladly accepted, but not required, at the door.

Assistance Dogs International has specific standards that an individual must meet in order to be a certified assistance (service and or hearing) dog trainer – and taking part in this class or seminar does not meet these requirements.
