Drawing the Human Figure Without a Model

Drawing the Human Figure Without a Model

The approach of this class is like the Drawing Animals class in that photo references are used in the beginning to learn how to measure the proportions of the human body. Wooden manikins are used to train the student to transfer the three-dimensional subject to the flat surface and maintain the illusion of depth and solidity. Following that, sculpture is brought in to draw from to extend this capability. And finally, small life-like figures are made available to practice from as well. This class will prepare the student for actual life drawing if they wish to pursue it.

Instructor: George Palovich began drawing at an early age copying pictures from his favorite comic books.  His serious pursuit of a career in art began in high school.  He spent all of his extra study time working in the art room.  With an academic scholarship to the University of Toledo, George received his art training at the Toledo museum of Art.Graduating with a Bachelor of Education in Art, George received a Graduate Assistant ship to Kent State where he earned his Master of Fine Arts degree.  He has taught at venues such as the San Antonio Art Institute, Akron Art Institute, adult art classes at various resorts, recreation centers and the West Valley Art Museum where he also served as Curator for fifteen years.  Most recently he has been holding figure drawing and beginning drawing out of his wife's and his studio in Sun City.
