Winter: Ages 18+

Altered Book Workshop
We will use the pages of decommissioned books, transforming them into new hand-bound art journals. Every page in our books will be altered using paint and collage, creating multi-page works of art. At the end of the workshop, we use a simple book-binding technique to complete our journals. No art experienced required.

Drawing I-III: The Art of Seeing
For two hours each week, exercise your natural perception skills and learn to see and think like an artist. Process-oriented exercises in line, value, mark-making, and gesture will help you record what you see in pencil or charcoal. Render a range of 2D and 3D subjects, including still life, the human form, masterworks, and animals.

Beginners are welcome, as well as experienced students interested in refreshing rusty drawing skills. Returning students will be provided new subject matter and refined technique instruction.

Experimental Painting
We think art can be exploratory and fun, so why not approach it as play? In art making and other fields, play can be a vital tool for experimentation and innovation. Beginning students will gain confidence as they work through experimental painting exercises, while more advanced students will be challenged to do something new. In this acrylic painting course, problem solving, spontaneity, chance, and unique materials will direct artistic processes yielding interesting and complex works of art. Esteemed instructor Stephanie Lane has a soft spot for expressive painting and mixed media, so we'll spend time exploring these approaches as well.

All skill levels are welcome to explore representational and/or abstract painting in this relaxed, supportive class. Our instructor will offer one-on-one instruction, and lead informal discussions to create a learning environment where knowledge and skills are shared by all participants. New and returning students are welcome!
