Aikido!  The Art of Peace a dynamic martial art based on harmony.  Enjoy noncompetitive training in a supportive community offered by 7th degree belt Shihan Hideki  Shiohira and his senior students.  The Japanese martial art of Aikiko is a comprehensive system of throwing, joint locking, striking and pinning techniques, coupled  with training in traditional Japanese weapons such as the sword, staff and knife.

Tai-Chi: Chen Style
Learn and practice the basic principles of traditional Tai Chi.  Enhance body coordination, increase joint mobility, improve balance and develop strength. Tai Chi, which originates from China emphasizes smooth gentle movements and self-awareness. Practice Tai Chi form to increase agility, balance, flexibility and mind-body coordination.  Also learn and practice Silk-reeling exercise, a series of spiral movements which increases body joints mobility and reduces physical tension.  Explore standing meditation to increase awareness and improve muscle relaxation.  No black marking soled shoes allowed in class.

Taiko is the art of Japanese drumming, which develops self-expression and musical creativity.  This course is a basic introduction to the world of taiko.  This includes Japanese expressions, the kinds and use of taiko, and the sound of various taiko beats.  In each class, everyone will participate by playing on actual drums.  All the equipment-including drums and sticks are provided.  NOTE:  Taiko is a physical activity requiring fitness and stamina.  There will a $90 materials fee payable to the instructor at the first class to cover the drum heads equipment.
