28000009 Tour - Broadway Historic Theater and Commercial District and the Metrorail Art Tour

A docent will lead us on a walking tour through LA’s Historic Theater District, and we will get to view the interiors of some Broadway theaters that are the proud survivors of Hollywood’s golden years. (Interior access to theaters may vary per tour.) The theaters are within a 4 or 5 block area, and there are stairways up to the theaters’ balconies. Lunch on your own will be at TASTE Food Hall or at your choice of other restaurants at FIGat7th, a landmark retail center. After lunch a docent will meet us for a ride on a Metro train on our “Metro Art Moves You” tour. We will get off the Metro at several stops where our guide will educate us about the public art at each station as we experience what it is like to use the Metro. Please wear comfortable shoes for this day’s outing.

Tour - Forest Lawn, Museum of Neon Art, and the Bunny Museum

28000008 - Tour - Forest Lawn, Museum of Neon Art, and the Bunny Museum

We'll begin our day at the original Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. A cemetery might not seem like the most appealing place to go, but this one is a delight. It is the 300-acre home of great marble sculpture, bronze statuary, timeless architecture, magnificent paintings, and the famous Last Supper stained glass window. It is a green, 300-acre park-like setting which is the final resting place of many luminaries such as Clark Gable, Walt Disney, and Michael Jackson. Then there's a stop at the Museum of Neon Art, the only museum devoted exclusively to art in electric media. The museum documents and preserves contemporary neon, electric and kinetic fine art, and exhibits outstanding examples of historic neon signs. You will have time for lunch on your own at your choice of many restaurants nearby. The we go to the Bunny Museum which is certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as being home to the world's largest collection of rabbit-related items---35,400+ of them! The museum's collections recently moved from the owner's home to a new 7,000 square foot space. You won't believes you eyes.

Tour - Rubel Castle and Christmas Is…

28000010 Tour - Rubel Castle and Christmas Is...

At age 19, Michael Rubel bought some property in Glendora and followed his compulsion to build a castle. It took 25 years of hard work, discarded and donated materials, and the help of friends and strangers to complete his dream.  There are now more than a dozen structures on the property, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. This is a docent-led tour which includes some irregular walking surfaces. Please wear sturdy footwear. Heels, flip-flops, and sandals are NOT recommended. The buildings and grounds are NOT ADA accessible, and no participation is allowed via wheelchairs, walkers, or cart assistance.  For lunch on your own, you may choose from one of several restaurants on our way to the Haugh Performing Arts Center. There we will see “Christmas Is… ,’’ a  show which is all that you have ever wanted a holiday show to be. This lively spectacular features glorious music, dancing, scenery, costumes, and energetic performers, with a surprise or two as well.
