R19. Master Copying Class at the National Gallery

In celebration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Jacopo Tintoretto (1518–1594), the National Gallery of Art, Washington and the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia with the special cooperation of the Gallerie dell’Accademia, is organizing three major exhibitions on the Venetian master and you’re invited to the party! This summer, the New York Academy of Art will be offering its popular “Copying the Masters” class, usually held at the Metropolitan Museum, at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Students taking this class will have unprecedented access to the one of the world’s most comprehensive and prestigious art collections. The Collection includes Ginevra de’ Benci the only portrait by Leonardo da Vinci in North America, Raphael's Alba Madonna, Titian's Venus with a Mirror, and Jan van Eyck's The Annunciation, as well as works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Rodin and Degas. As with our “Copying the Masters” class, students will study techniques used by painters throughout history and learn how to adopt these methods into their own practice, under the instruction of Academy faculty member Joao Brandao. Students will have exclusive access to the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (CASVA) and the National Gallery’s Conservation Lab, and admittance to the extensive Art Materials Collection containing more than 21,000 items. This is a rare opportunity and we expect places to fill fast! Application deadline is due by June 24th.
