Discovering Early Bloomers

Participants will hike trails in search of wildflowers that bloom before the peak season begins--Many of the area's most interesting and rare wildflowers bloom on the coattails of winter. Emphasis will be on identification and photography. Trails in Hope Valley, Markleeville, Gardnerville, Washoe Meadows, Page Meadows, and Sherwood Forest will be explored, depending on snow melt and trail accessibility.

Knitting: Learn To Knit and Beyond!

This creative and fun filled workshop begins with essential lessons for new and experienced knitters: choosing supplies, casting on, knitting, purling and binding off. Learn how to increase, decrease, make a buttonhole, knit lace, cable, knit in the round and read patterns. Participants will discover a host of useful techniques that makes knitting both exciting and enjoyable. Workshop fee includes yarn and needles to get started.

Leather Working

A two part, hands-on workshop using traditional leather working techniques to make a fashionable leather clutch with a matching leather card holder. Learn how to cut out leather, work with adhesive, sand and finish edges, assemble hardware, and stitch a clutch and matching card holder by hand. Tools and materials will be supplied for class with the option to purchase a leather craft kit after. Kit includes a hammer, punches, waxed thread, extra leather, needles, hardware, edge slicker and a stitching pony.

Sewing Basics

Join us as we learn the fundamentals of sewing, including machine basics, threading, troubleshooting, straight and zigzag stitches.Learn how to choose the correct fabric and thread for your projects, how to follow a pattern and more! Basic seams, hems, and construction methods will be explored. All supplies and equipment provided. Continuing participants will explore more advanced techniques including using a serger and basic alterations. 

 

Mother and Daughters’ encouraged to attend together, ages 10+ welcome.

Perhaps you are a seasoned stand up veteran and would like to hone in your skills, or you would like to gain more confidence in the work place, whatever your reasons this course could be for you.  This course will cover all aspects of Stand Up from writing, finding and honing material, analyzing comedy, persona, and character work. This course will conclude with a showcase.

Wood Carving: Spring Walking Stick

This six-week workshop introduces participants to the basics of traditional woodcarving using a knife. Participants learn how to carve a basic walking stick using different techniques and your own creative imagination.   Carving knife, apron and safety gloves are provided.  Homework will be assigned in order to complete your handiwork.  Bring a stick 6 feet long and 1-3 inches round or blank walking sticks will be available for purchase.
