Disaster Site Worker Trainer Course - OSHA 5600

Course Description:  

This course prepares experienced Outreach Training Program trainers to present OSHA #7600 Disaster Site Worker Course, intended for second responders (those arriving hours or days after the event).

Students are provided the opportunity to practice knowledge and skills through discussion, planned exercises, demonstrations, and presentations. Lesson plans and training materials for the OSHA #7600 Disaster Site Worker Course are provided.

 

Students must prepare a presentation on an assigned disaster site worker topic. Successful completion of this course authorizes students to become trainers in the Disaster Site Worker Outreach Training Program, to conduct the OSHA #7600 Disaster Site Worker Course, and to issue cards to participants after verifying course completion.

 

Learn to:

  • Describe the purpose and use of an Incident Command System
  • Recognize disaster site health and safety hazards
  • Describe appropriate Adult Learning Techniques
  • Recognize and demonstrate proper use of respiratory protection equipment
  • Identify required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Describe methods of decontamination

Important Class Information:

It is recommended that each student bring a laptop for use in preparing presentations.


Prerequisites: OSHA #500 Trainer Course for the Construction Industry or OSHA #501 Trainer Course for General Industry, three (3) years safety training experience, and completion of the OTC #204 40-hour HAZWOPER training within the past five (5) years, or the 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher within the past 12 months, or possess journey-level credentials in a building trade union. Outreach training Program trainers are required to attend OSHA #5602 Update for Disaster Site Worker Trainer course at least every four (4) years to maintain their Outreach Training Program trainer authorization.

Trainer Course for the Maritime Industry - OSHA 5400

Course Description: For those who are interested in teaching the 10-hour and 30-hour maritime safety and health outreach classes to employees and other interested groups. Course participants learn effective instructional approaches and the successful use of visual aids and handouts. This course authorizes the student to become a trainer in the Maritime Outreach Trainer Program and to conduct both 10- and 30-hour maritime safety and health courses for shipyard employment, marine terminals, and longshoring, and to issue cards to participants verifying course completion.

IMPORTANT: Trainer level courses require that the prerequisites to be submitted and approved prior to your registration. Please complete, in detail, the prerequisite form with requested certificate(s) of completion and send via email to otc@clpccd.org or fax (925) 249-9367. We will process the request in 3 business days.  You will be emailed to the address you provide on your form if your request is approved with final instructions on how to register for the course or if we need more information. Prerequisites:   

1.  OSHA #5410 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry completed within the last seven years

AND

2.  Five years maritime industry safety experience. Two years of experience may be substituted for:

  • a bachelor or higher college degree in occupational safety and health or industrial hygiene by an accredited college or university
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

NOTE: Students must prepare a presentation on an assigned maritime industry topic individually or as part of a group, and successfully pass a written exam at the end of the course to become an authorized OSHA Maritime Industry Outreach Trainer. Outreach Trainers must attend OSHA #5402 Update for Maritime Industry Outreach Trainers or retake OSHA #5400 at least once every four (4) years to maintain their authorized trainer status.

Trainer Course in Permit-Required Confined Space Entry - OTC 403

Course Description: This course is designed for those who are interested in teaching a permit-required confined space awareness-level course to employees and other interested groups. Course participants learn application of standards, as well as effective instructional approaches and the successful use of visual aids and handouts.

This Trainer Course in Permit-Required Confined Spaces is recommended for inspectors, auditors, safety and health professionals and those personnel responsible for writing, auditing or training employees with an active role in permit space entry.

 

Objectives:

  • Describe Adult Learning Needs

  • Prepare and deliver a presentation using effective delivery techniques

  • Discuss the requirements and interpretations for permit-required confined space entry

  • Discuss the general training requirements of the permit space standard

  • Effectively conduct permit space training in accordance with the OSHA's Permit-Required Confined Space standard 29 CFR 1910.146

 

Prerequisites: OSHA #2264 Permit-Required Confined Space Entry

Prior to registration, students must provide a copy of their current trainer card for validation and complete a prerequisite form.  Please note that effective January 1, 2019, the 90-day grace period is eliminated and the refresher course must be completed before the expiration date of the card.  If the card is expired, you will need to retake the OSHA #500 Trainer Course for the Construction Industry and the OSHA #510 OSHA Standards for Construction Industry Course if it has been more than 7 years since you last completed it. Extensions of trainer authorizations that expire on or after January 1, 2019, will not be granted.

It is highly recommended that you bring a laptop to class to work on developing your presentations.
