AARP Smart Driver Course

This four-hour class satisfies both the initial AARP Smart Driver Course and refresher course requirements. Participants will learn driver safety techniques, road signs, vehicle options and ways to keep safe on the road. At the conclusion, you may be eligible for a reduction on your auto insurance premium (check with your insurance company). Additional materials fee of $15 for AARP members; $20 for non-members, paid by check directly to AARP and given to the instructor during class. (1 session)

Instructor: Larry Anderson is a certified AARP Smart Driver instructor, and combines his professional and teaching experience with a sense of humor to offer his students a rewarding classroom experience. 
During his 30 years in the court system, Larry wore several hats including Education, Training and Development Director. Larry has also taught several other classes for PORA.

Beginning Tap Dance

An introductory workshop for fun exercise and rhythmic dance.  Taught to different styles of Jazz, Swing, Dixieland, Ragtime and Contemporary Music. Her techniques include taps, toes, digs, shuffles, flaps, time steps, and shim, slam, shimmy.(4 sessions)

Instructor: Traci Mann has choreographed Broadway musicals, produced Tap Extravaganza (27 years) and worked in most of the theaters in NYC as a dancer, choreographed, and producer.  Recently moving to Surprise, Arizona, she is proud to pass on the master steps and styles of the masters she worked with: Buster Brown, Lon Chaney, Gregory Hines, Chuck Green, Carnell Lyons, Peg Leg Bates, and many more.

Cutting the Cord- Fire Your Cable Company

Tired of paying the high cost of Cable TV? What about having your rates going up every year? If so, this is the course for you!  This class will explain what cord cutters are and the logic behind cord cutting.  The various ways to get programming without paying through the nose to your cable company, and how to do it will be explained. It will cover what you need to cut your cord. Explain Free TV that is available to everyone and how to get it. Digital TV signals, WiFi Internet, Smart TV and Streaming Devices, Pay services like Netflix, HULU and Amazon Prime.  The student should leave with a basic idea of how to cut the cord, the equipment needed to do it and what is available without a cable subscription.

Instructor:  Edward is passionate about assisting his fellow residents finding ways to lower their cable bill.  A veteran  having served with the US Army he was a Network Engineer with Poly One Corp for 20 years.  Currently he serves as a volunteer with the SCW Posse and the SCW Prides.

 Instructor: Jeannette Vaupel, RN, BS, LMT. After holding several nursing positions in acute care, Jeannette became a massage therapist and entered private practice. This led to teaching anatomy & physiology, along with seeing clients. She also taught in the massage program at Kishwaukee College from 2008-2014.  Jeannette has presented hundreds of nutrition and health talks to professionals and the general public in Illinois and Arizona.  She now analyzes medications for nutrients they deplete, offers genetic and hormone testing, and conducts private consultations in order to offer recommendations for all who want to enhance their health.  Her focus on essential oils began in the early 90's and more recently she has created products using medical grade oils for enhancing immune function as well as giving relief from pain, headaches, anxiety, depression, sore muscles, etc.
