Summer Puppetry Arts by Tania Yager
Grade Range: 3 - 10

Taught by professional puppeteer and fabricator Tania Yager, Summer Puppetry Arts is an on line video puppetry course for kids ages 8 to 16. Every other day, starting on August 3rd, students will have access to five different instructional videos which will teach them the basics of constructing puppets and setting up performance spaces. Topics covered in the course range from a brief short history on styles of puppetry (show and tell), construction with simple house hold materials and found objects, the use of recyclables in fabrication, professional techniques for making up to three different types of puppets, as well as how to construct simple stages with lighting for performance. There will be an emphasis in putting puppets on film using smart phones. The styles of puppets constructed during the course will primarily include shadow puppets and toy theater style puppets. We will also discuss hand puppets, rod puppets and bunraku puppetry. Kids interested in art and/or theater and performing arts will thrive in this class! A VERY simple and LOW COST materials list will be emailed to each participant and students (and parents) will have opportunities to ask questions and get feedback during open on line “LAB HOURS” with the instructor. A final Zoom meeting will be scheduled at the end of the course for students to show off one of their creations and talk about their process!  JOIN US IN SUMMER PUPPETRY ARTS AND LETS MAKE SOMETHING FUN!  =)
