Among the many reasons adults pursue a Commonwealth Secondary School Diploma is the desire to help their child or grandchild with school work. Parents and guardians may believe they are ill-equipped to do so due to their own low-literacy. However, by focusing on process rather than content, adults are extremely capable of helping their students. In fact, by calling upon strengths of character and experience, adults with low literacy possess everything they need to help with homework. This offering will help adult education teachers, tutors, and administrators give their learners the confidence to help their children with homework.

This workshop focuses on helping an adult education professional bring forth an adult learner’s skills, which, by extension, the learner can use with her/his student. This workshop takes a different approach to topics you’ve heard of many times. The sessions allow time to discuss and practice:

  • Modeling a growth mindset vs. fixed mindset
  • Process praise
  • Goal setting

This workshop will take place over two sessions. April 6th from 9:30 - 12:30 and April 13th from 9:30 - 12:30.

Age Range:  18  -  & UP
