workshop is directed to ESL teachers and tutors who are interested in their
students’ health and safety rights and responsibilities at the workplace.
Through this presentation, facilitators will help ESL students understand what
is safe or unsafe, what the hazards present at their workplace are, and most
importantly, how immigrant workers can improve their safety working as a team
with management and other resources. We will share a curriculum with lesson
plans that include activities such as body maps, role plays and games that acknowledge
the challenges on preventing injuries and fostering safer workplaces. This
workshop aims not only to raise awareness about student’s responsibilities and
protections as new workers in the U.S. but aims to create a network of support
that advances safer workplaces.
