In this workshop we go beyond our usual understanding and displays of caring to explore caring as a vital force that can transform life from the inside out. We will employ practices and thought-provoking perspectives from Tarthang Tulku's recently published Caring book to examine how caring can bring us face-to-face with human nature’s deepest mysteries and highest potentials. Caring can become our foundation for the practice of skillful means.

We live in a remarkable time in history when we have developed massive technical power but are losing our humanity to deep routines that control us and dictate where to focus our energy. Until we learn how to cultivate an appreciation for ourselves, we will be ineffective in caring for others.

Through caring we can experience a greater depth of love for ourselves and others, shift from reactivity to responsiveness, and awaken to being fully present in all situations. We will integrate teachings and practices from Caring with other readings from Rinpoche’s earlier writings, such as Skillful Means and Kum Nye. From a tender heart of caring, we can act skillfully and dynamically in the world, opening fully to our potential as human beings.
