Understand the various auto focus settings available and when to use them or switch to manual focus. Find out about megapixels, histograms and JPEG versus raw file formats. You'll walk away with the skills to make the most of your digital SLR camera. NOTE: To get the most from this class, your camera must have Program, Shutter Priority and Aperture Priority exposure modes. Check your manual to see if these features are listed. Prerequisite: none

Introduction to Lightroom
Lightroom is Adobe's "swiss army knife" software for digital photographers, addressing the needs of importing, filing, adjusting, organizing, converting, and displaying digital images. This workshop is for those new to digital imaging who would like to use Lightroom to organize and preserve their collection of digital images. Night & Low Light Photography at the Fair!
Have fun making photographs at the Western Montana Fair. In class before the fair opens, we will explore creative night photography techniques for capturing spinning carnival lights. We will also learn tips and techniques for making photographs in low light conditions such as inside exhibit halls or barns as well as early evening outside. Then we will meet at the fair on two evenings to practice. Students are welcome to spend more time at the fair as their time and budgets allow. We'll wrap up in the classroom by sharing our favorite photos from the event.

Photograph in Garnet Ghost Town
Have fun making photographs at Garnet Ghost Town. In the classroom, you learn a brief history of the town before moving on to basic composition and lighting tips along with how to shoot color, black & white, or sepia pictures with the camera. You discover how to tell a story of the place by shooting wide-angle, normal and detail pictures. Then you meet at Garnet on Saturday morning to explore the buildings and artifacts. You wrap up by sharing your favorite photos from the trip. Knowledge of your camera’s controls and access to a tripod are recommended. A small entrance fee is required to visit the ghost town.

Wildflower Photography Workshop
Spend the day making wildflower images with fellow photographers, while exploring new techniques for making landscape images! Beginning with a sunrise shoot, we will spend the first half of the day in the field refining our shooting techniques as we capture the beauty of spring's wildflowers in Missoula. After lunch, we will head to the Lifelong Learning Center to work through a post-processing workflow.
