Certified Nursing Assistant

As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) you will be working closely with patients, and be responsible for basic care services such as bathing, grooming and feeding patients, assisting nurses with medical equipment, and checking patient vital signs. CNAs give patients important social and emotional support and also provide vital information on patient conditions to nurses.  You may work in hospitals, nursing care facilities, or community care facilities for the elderly. 


The 175 hours includes classroom instruction, skills laboratory, and clinical training. Upon successful completion of the program, students will take the State Certified Nurse Assistant examination at a Red Cross facility. 


Because this is state certification there are very specific and important program prerequisites: 

  •  Application paperwork
  • Physical exam
  • Immunizations (Proof for all immunizations OR evidence of immunity is required)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella
    • Varicella (Chicken Pox)
    • Hepatitis B.
    • Diptheria/Tetanus
    • TB clearance
  •  Livescan fingerprints
  •  California Driver's License or ID Card
  •  Social Security Card
  •  CPR Certification (before class ends).

This course is articulated with Mission College.  Students can earn up to 5.5 college credits upon completion.

Medical Terminology, Advanced

This course prepares students for employment in health-related fields. Students will develop their ability to understand the language of medicine through word building, analysis of terms, pronunciation, and spelling. The course includes basic anatomy, pathology and diagnostic procedures as well as language used in medical professions. This course is a prerequisite for the Medical Interpreter course. 


PREREQUISITES: Employment level competency in written and oral communication in English.


COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency through tests, quizzes and projects, and complete at least 80% of the course hours. 

 

This class is articulated with Mission College. Students can earn credits upon completion.
