Basic Home Electrical & Solar Repair

Instructor will provide demonstration and explanation of practical methods to repair or upgrade small/simple residential electrical problems generally not requiring a permit. Instruction will also include how to assess the economic feasibility of installing a solar photovoltaic system at their residential properties in order to reduce electrical energy costs.  Topics discussed will include: Electrical Code Requirements, Safety Issues, Equipment and Tools, Materials, Fixtures, receptacles, and switches and Survey and forecasts, economic and utility considerations, installation costs, and contracts for solar systems. (12 Hours)

This one night class will teach you how to create and maintain a healthy compost bin that will be fully operational during winter months and beyond. Your compost bin will be virtually odorless and will be very easy to maintain.  You will be able to compost many things such as coffee, tea, junk mail, egg containers, fruits and vegetable peels, and more. You will take home a 1/2 lb. container of a compost starter kit, which contains all the micro and macro organisms that are needed to start a perfectly healthy, organic, functioning compost bin.

Residential Addition 101
Have you been thinking of renovating your kitchen and adding a family room? Do you desperately need a garage with a mudroom? Are you considering adding an in-law apartment for your mother? Nancy Dickinson, Principal of Dickinson Architects in Concord, will give an overview of the design and construction process for residential additions and renovations. The class will review zoning and septic issues, budgeting, whether to “move or stay”, the architectural process, contractor selection, permitting, and what to expect during construction. Time will be allowed for questions about your specific project. Nancy is a registered Architect with over 25 years of experience. For 20 years she has specialized in Residential Design. Small Engine Maintenance
What do you do when your lawn mower or snow blower isn't working? Join us to learn how these and other small engines work and how to fix them! We will examine the workings of 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines, discuss fuel delivery & carburation, governors, shear pins, basic electrical & magnetism, maintenance and more. We will spend the first two nights in class and the third night in the shop, taking apart engines.

Welding I

Join us to learn the art of welding. This is a basic course in the Oxy-fuel process and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Please bring your own safety glasses with you. Additional practices may be explored briefly throughout this course. You will be provided coats and gloves, but are welcome to bring your own instead if you wish.
